Beginning

Nino Niederreiter’s dream of becoming a pro hockey player started at the young age of 5. He grew up in Chur and had much support from his parents and two older sisters Romina and Lorena. After playing in the juniors division with the EHC Chur, Niederreiter decided to leave his hometown team and played for HC Davos 2006-2009. Because of his ambition and talent Niederreiter was drafted to the North American junior league (WHL) team Portland Winterhawks at age 16.

Breakthrough

In the 2010 Entry Draft Niederreiter was picked 5th overall to the New York Islanders. Niederreiter scored his first NHL goal and wrote history as youngest scorer at age 18 for the Islanders. After 9 games he got send down to his old junior team. In the following season 2011-12 he played his frist full year in the NHL unfortunatly with a lot uf injuries. Because of a half season lockout Niederreiter played the season 2012-13 with the AHL Team Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In the summer of 2013 the Minnesota Wild traded for Niederreiter. At the end of the second full season (2014-15) for the Wilds, Nino Niederreiter is the first swiss player who scored 20 goals in 1 season and the first Swiss NHL player who shot a hat trick. Since season 2017-18 he past Mark Streit for scoring most goals by a swiss Ice hockey player.

Nationalteam

Niederreiter has been playing for the Swiss national team since 2010 and won the silver medal at the IIHF World Championships in 2013 and 2018.
